Today, we would like to discuss it. What is wound foam dressing?
After getting any injury or breakdown of the barrier of skin or tissue, the doctor uses foam-type equipment for healing and protection from infection, which is called a foam wound dressing kit.
Explanation: Foam is an absorbent dressing that is available in either adhesive form or non-adhesive form. They are often used as a primary dressing, but can also be used as a secondary dressing in some cases. Some are thin and some are thicker, providing greater cushioning and absorption. Foam is formed from a polymer. They have a small open cell that can trap moisture, and they are permeable to gas.
Importance of Foam dressing:
*Absorbs exudate
*Permit gaseous exchange
*Maintain a moist wound environment
*Protect surrounding skin
*Thermal insulation
*Conform to body shape
*Provide protection and cushioning
*Easy and economical
Selection wound for foam dressing:
1)post-operative and traumatic wound
2)Donor sites
3)Minors burn
4)Diabetic ulcers
5)Pressure ulcers
Basic rules of foam dressing:
First, clean the wound area and dry the surrounding skin.
Next, select the foam slightly larger than the wound.
Then, put the smooth, shiny side of the dressing directly over the wound surface for venous leg ulcers.
The foam should be secured in place with a suitable bandage, such as a compression bandage.
Foam dressing can remain for up to seven days, or until the exudate has saturated.
Whenever any gets injured, everyone should get protected as soon as possible to protect from viruses and bacteria from the outer environment.
